In 1999 I returned to my home village of Lacock and for a week during the Easter holidays turned an old class room of mine in the Lacock Primary School into a daylight photographic studio. I had strong memories of this room and of my teacher Mr Mortimer; an elderly gentleman with a low thespian voice, dark hair and beard. He had a weathered face and a penchant for smoking fine cafe creme cigarillos, the smell of which hung in the eaves of the high vaulted ceiling of the classroom. His large world map that hung above him and his desk, supported by the presence in the room of a large aquatic tank with a few gold fish, made him an authority on anything that happened outside of the boundaries of Lacock village.
That week I set up a simple back drop in this large familiar room and commenced photographing many of the local village legends and families. A few of the portraits from over a hundred that I took are here in this gallery.
