'Finding Liz' is my first short documentary film. I shot and directed this 30 minute film over a period of 12 months.
The story reflects on the life and work of portrait artist Elizabeth Moore from her 19th century studio in north London.
‘A portrait painter whose creative life is ground to a halt after accepting the gift of a very large sofa into her 19 century studio takes time out with filmmaker Darren Filkins to reflect on her life, work and the conundrum of choosing between the objects one keeps for inspiration and the problem of the diminishing effect this has on her beautiful studio. This is a journey that weaves together a lifetime of art with reflections of lost love on a Mediterranean island, working on a Hollywood movie in the late 50's and discussions of the transformative effect of her art on the feminist movement in London of the late 60's and early 70's.’
